This summer, we are making up for lost time, both with travel, and in my case, shopping for travel! Ha! In June I met a friend in Salt Lake City for a girls’ weekend. We saw a woman with the cutest swimsuit at the pool and asked her where she got it. That started a flurry of summer vacation shopping (I literally placed an Old Navy order poolside) as I considered what to pack for Hawaii. I found a bunch of reasonably priced things and thought I’d put together a quick post!
SWIMSUIT COVER UPS
First up is swimsuit cover ups. I’ve had the same swimsuit cover up for years and frankly, I’m a little tired of it. It also doesn’t fit very well across the bust anymore. Rather than pay top dollar, I ordered five from Target and kept three of them! The striped cover up is fully stocked! I’ve also been loving this cute navy option, and the stock on that one is good too. Both are under $25.
SWIMSUITS
If you follow me on instagram, you may remember that we got a hot tub recently. That got me thinking that I should have some less expensive suits that I don’t have to baby since my suits are getting way more use than they have in past years. Normally, I take the time to wash my swimsuit out after each use to at least get the chlorine out. However, having some options that don’t cost a fortune means I don’t have to worry if I forget to do that! I think I brought five suits to Hawaii and the most expensive one was maybe $40! Here are the suits I’ve purchased this year and love:
SUNGLASSES & HAT
I bought this cute designer pair during the NSale. I haven’t had good aviators in awhile and those fit really well. However, the ones that came with me on this trip are two pairs of inexpensive Amazon cuties. I can toss them in the beach bag, wear them in the pool, whatever. It’s been a great decision! I’ve owned the black pair (left) for almost two years and they are still going strong. I purchased the brown pair (right) for this trip and am loving them too! They both come in multiple colors which is fun. The hat is fantastic because it rolls up, which means it won’t arrive at your destination all crumpled from packing!
FLAT SANDALS
Over the years I’ve really cut down on how much I bring on a tropical vacation, especially when we are with the kids. Side note: I wrote a post a couple of years ago with some tips for traveling with kids if you’re interested. Anyway, we cook or get takeout most nights, so there’s really no need to bring wedges or heels to pair with a dressy outfit. I travel in tennies which is great for hiking or exercising, and then I pack three pairs of shoes: beach flip flops, leather J Crew flip flops, and these quilted Steve Madden slides (in the photo – on sale!!).
I hope this little rundown of what to pack for Hawaii was helpful! Do you have any trips coming up?
