We spent last weekend in San Diego, and it was 85 on Sunday. 85!! We sat by the pool, enjoyed walks around the beautiful property, and read on the balcony in the morning sun. It was so relaxing! It was one of those weekends that reminded me why I love California so much. There are so many beautiful places to visit.
We spent our weekend in San Diego at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar using two credit card free nights. We were also able to use a suite upgrade certificate that we got with the credit card, and let me tell you, it was quite the upgrade! I (almost) wished the boys had been with us because the setup was perfect for a family. It had a kitchenette and a dining room table that could seat six! Both the living room and the bedroom had balconies. Much of our time was spent there, enjoying the fresh air and the views.
It was somewhat chilly when we left the Bay Area on Saturday, and I knew it might be cold on the plane. I decided that layers was the way to go. I wore a basic black t shirt, long cardigan (sold out), jeans, and Converse. By the time we got to San Diego, I was ready to ditch the Converse for flip flops! And can we talk about my beautiful purse?! My very talented cousin made it for me for Christmas. She operates her own Etsy shop, the Bear and the Axe, and has the most gorgeous selection of handmade goods. The new bag is taller than my old one, which was ideal for carrying my iPad and People magazine. Priorities, right?!
We didn’t make a single plan before we left for our weekend in San Diego, and it was perfect. My husband found a rental car company that was walking distance from the terminal so that we didn’t have to ride the world’s slowest rental car shuttle. Not even kidding. The fun thing was that by choosing a private company, he could choose the specific vehicle and we got to zip around in a cute Mini Cooper! When we lived in San Francisco, we used to say a Mini would be the perfect car because you could park it anywhere. Alas, it’s not so practical with two growing boys!
Although we have friends and family in the area, we tried to fly under the radar for this trip so we could really relax and recharge. It’s always nice to getaway without the boys, but this month in particular has been so full and the middle school decision has been weighing on me. The break was perfectly timed and left me feeling ready to jump headfirst into the week.
If you read last Friday’s post, you know that we toured the last two middle school options this week. The good news is that I’m feeling at peace with whatever our son chooses, which is not the way I felt before this process started! I am thankful for what we’ve learned, and excited for him and his next chapter. OK maybe excited is the wrong word, but I know he’s ready and will thrive wherever he ends up! I just need to keep repeating this to myself every day between now and August…

First, your photos are beautiful! I wouldn’t have known that this wasn’t some foreign place if you hadn’t mentioned it. I also completely get wanting to avoid the family and just relax a bit, which is why I always wait until the end of my trip to see family members.

Thank you so much! It’s a hard balance, isn’t it? I love spending time with family but relaxation was for sure the priority on this trip!

Me too! It’s my favorite place in California besides the Bay Area. And honestly if it weren’t so far from family, I would probably want to live there!
