Summer is here! Finally. The end of the year is always bittersweet since it means your kids are growing up and time is passing. This year, my oldest finished elementary school. It actually didn’t hit me as hard as I thought it would, but I suspect that’s because the excitement of summer overshadows the end of a season. August will probably be a different story though… We have an end of the year tradition of going to dinner anywhere the boys choose. The last day of school was full of parties and celebrations, so we waited until Saturday to go out. This striped button up shirt was perfect for dinner at one of our favorite upscale Mexican food restaurants!
I got this cute striped button up shirt from J.Crew last month with my birthday coupon. I don’t often buy things that I have to iron, but this shirt is so cute, and the fabric so soft, that I simply couldn’t resist! It comes in pink as well as blue. I love that the buttons are hidden except for the top one. The sleeve length is perfect, the fit is relaxed but not baggy, and the overall length isn’t so long that it looks messy untucked. J.Crew currently has 30% off full priced styles right now, so it’s a great time to refresh your summer wardrobe!
This week we are supposed to have highs in the upper 80s, but last week was super mild. We walked to dinner and sat outside, so I chose close toed shoes to keep me a bit warmer. I also layered my Old Navy field jacket from this post for the walk home. The shoes are a soft leather and they’ve gotten more comfortable with every wear.
My jeans are my favorite AG raw hem. This pair is low rise and my others (the distressed ones, in this post) are mid rise. It’s nice to have both depending on which top you are wearing and whether or not you’re in the mood for a knee hole on any given day. Ha. I bought the distressed version of these jeans at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year. The sale starts in July, and it is a great time to get amazing prices on brand new designer denim styles. I budget accordingly and plan to buy (at least) one new pair this year.
And can we talk about my sunglasses?! The problem with being a blogger and looking at pics of yourself all the time is that you get really, really bored with the accessories that you have. I love my Smith sunglasses but they are the only ones I’ve used since launching the blog, and it was time for an update. I’ve been intrigued by Quay sunglasses since I saw them at Nordstrom last year. Their price point is awesome, and they have a variety of styles and colors. I walked by their store in the mall last week, and it was buy one pair, get one half off. So of course I had to get two pairs! Their aviators come in two sizes and these are the smaller size. They were just $65, and then I got a second pair in another style for half off. I love a good deal!
It has now been eight weeks since we lost my mom. I’ve realized how much joy it brought me to share the boys and our lives with her, and I’m really missing her this week. I wish I could send pictures of 5th grade promotion or send a video of my little one at basketball camp. But I am thankful that we got so much time to talk and share on the phone, especially as her health declined. I continue to be thankful for her influence in my life and the friendship that we had. I sure do miss her though!
