OK so I may be a little late to the party on this one, but I decided to give in to the hype and try the Spanx faux leather leggings. When I decided to try the Spanx pair, I thought it would be a good opportunity for another spend vs. save post like the one I did on boyfriend jeans a few months ago. In my defense, I do own a pair of faux leather leggings that I got a couple of years ago. You can see them in this post. At the time, I didn’t see any need to spend more on the Spanx pair. My original pair is cute, but the waistband tends to roll down easily, so I decided to look for an alternative. Without further adieu, may I present spend vs. save: faux leather leggings.
The Spanx pair doesn’t go on sale very often, but I was able to get them 20% off during the Black Friday madness. Although the reviews say to size up, I ordered two pairs just for good measure. I ended up keeping the medium, which goes along with what reviewers said. In most other leggings and pants, I am a size small.
I don’t typically love high waisted pants, but the beauty of the Spanx pair being high waisted is that it sucks everything in. So I’m willing to make an exception in this case. Ha! Because the waistband is thicker, it doesn’t roll down like my old pair did. I really like the sheen too! The fabric is a bit thinner than I expected, but that means I’ll be able to wear them more of the year. If your winter is too cold, I suspect you could add a thin layer underneath to add warmth, or wear them with boots.
While I think the Spanx are an investment piece you’ll wear for years to come, I understand that you may not want to spend that kind of money unless you’re sure you will wear them allll the time. There are lots of other faux leather pairs out there, but I decided to try the top rated pair on Amazon for the “save” option.
I have to say, I’m impressed! Although they do have a bit of an odd odor right out the package, they are surprisingly comfortable. The biggest difference, as you can see, is the sheen. This pair is far shinier than the Spanx pair, and you know what? I’m here for it. I actually really like the shine! Go figure.
You could probably make a case for keeping both pairs as they are pretty different, wouldn’t you say? Ha! The Spanx ones have to be carefully laundered to avoid losing their pretty finish, but I’m guessing the Amazon ones would be more forgiving.
Now that you’ve read spend vs. save: faux leather leggings, which pair is your favorite? Both?! Good answer. 😉
