I was browsing on the Nordstrom website recently when I came across this dress. Any dress priced at $65 is worth a closer look, and when it’s covered in sequins? Yes, please! It comes in two colors and I ordered them both! There is a lovely blush color as well as black, but when I tried them on, the black looked better with my skin tone. Had I just come back from a Hawaiian vacation, it would be a different story. However, me and my pale winter self look much better in black right about now. The moment I put this dress on, I knew it would be perfect for New Year’s Eve!
I should probably confess that we haven’t actually been out on New Year’s Eve in years. Once, when we lived in San Francisco, we went to the Embarcadero with the rest of the city to watch the countdown and the fireworks. It was so much fun! Nowadays, with the price and difficulty of securing a babysitter, and the impossible task of finding dinner reservations on a holiday, we opt to stay in and make a nice dinner at home. I remember one year when I was pregnant, we wanted to eat at our favorite Italian restaurant, but they had a fixed price menu that included champagne. I clearly couldn’t have any champagne, but they wouldn’t budge on the fixed price. So, we started our tradition of staying in. Last year we had lobster and I am hoping for a repeat this year!
We may not be going out on New Year’s Eve, but there are many other occasions that this dress would be perfect for. It is a classic style and I think it’s worth keeping just to have in my closet. You never know when the occasion will call for sequins! My husband’s company had a formal holiday party last year for the first time in several years, and I actually ordered a sequin dress as a potential option. It was far less comfortable than this one, and it had a much higher price tag! I was disappointed when his company stopped having a big holiday party every year because I really enjoy getting dressed up! One of my friends has a tradition of a fancy holiday date night each December with her husband. We might have to steal this idea just so I can wear my new dress!
At 5’7″, this dress is just long enough for me. I ordered a small and a medium and kept the medium to get a bit of extra length. In warmer weather, I would wear this with strappy sandals, but I chose a closed toe pump for extra warmth. My shoes are several years old, but I have linked a couple of similar pairs below. For nighttime, I would pair this with my black leather moto jacket or a wrap. A pop of color for your shoes or wrap would be fun too! I added color with a bright red lip instead. But I should probably buy some colored pumps too…
What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Do you like to go out, or stay in?
