Recently, my husband and I went out for drinks to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Because we had to hire a babysitter, we decided to turn the evening into a date night by going out to dinner first. Since having kids, it is our goal to have a date night once a month. Sometimes that doesn’t happen, and other times it ends up being more than once a month due to a work event for my husband. But we try to prioritize having time alone outside of the house when we can. We do get some time together each evening after our kids are in bed, but there is something so refreshing and life giving about leaving the house and all of its distractions in order to spend time together. However, our last night was full of wet weather, which meant I needed to come up with this rainy date night outfit!
I wanted to wear a dress because I wear jeans pretty much every day and welcome the chance to put on something a little different. I could have worn tall leather boots, but my Hunter boots are shiny and red which means they make a fun addition to any outfit!
The neckline on this dress is a bit too deep for me, so one benefit of wearing a scarf is that I don’t have to constantly worry about adjusting the top of the dress. And, I like how the scarf adds color to the look and ties in with the boots. The scarf also doubles as an accessory. If I wasn’t wearing it, I may have added a necklace, but there’s no need to do so when wearing a scarf!
I like this sweater dress because it doesn’t have any wool in it. I have a slight sensitivity to wool and even a small percentage makes me feel itchy. This is a bummer because SO MANY cute sweaters have wool in them, so when I find one that does not, I jump at it! My dress is a couple years old from Nordstrom, but I linked a few similar and cute choices below.
The nice thing about a sweater dress is that it keeps you warm and toasty on a cold day. Since I paired the boots with cozy tall socks, I was perfectly warm on the chilly night. I have several colors of boot socks so that I can choose the color that best coordinates with my outfit. The scarf also added extra warmth. Although it was very wet when we went out, it wasn’t raining much anymore, so I didn’t even need a jacket. Thankfully, we found close parking at the restaurant and the pub, so it worked out well.
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope your weekend is warm and cozy.
