While we were in Sonoma, we took advantage of the chance to enjoy a nice dinner out to celebrate my husband’s birthday a few days early. This green shift dress is one of my faves because you can easily dress it up or down, and the shape is flattering even if you have a little too much to eat at dinner. I know I can’t be the only one who has that problem… It comes in several colors, including black, which is always tempting, but I love this emerald green color as it works well for any season and provides a fun pop of color. The necklace I’m wearing is vintage Stella & Dot with clear crystals, which is neat because it looks different depending on what you are wearing it with.
On the Nordstrom website, it suggests sizing down if you are between sizes. However, that didn’t work for me as I found the smaller size to be a bit tight across the chest. Since Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns, I suggest ordering two sizes and seeing one which works best for you.
I love these Steven by Steve Madden shoes because they are classy and pretty without being too high. While we are on the subject of shoes, can we discuss the trend toward super high heels the last couple of years? I don’t know about you, but unless it’s a wedge, I just can’t comfortably walk in anything over three inches. So I was thrilled to find these Sam Edelman heels that are a reasonable height, but still flattering and sexy.
I wore this dress when we went to see Hamilton in San Francisco over the summer, and I paired it with the black version of these shoes and a black leather moto jacket. Although I’m a firm believer than denim goes with basically everything, I liked the slimmer lines of the moto jacket with this particular dress. However, if you want to wear it with flat sandals to a more casual event, denim would help keep the overall look from being too dressy.
We were seated on the outdoor patio of Harvest Moon, and during the course of our dinner, several acorns fell onto the tin roof above us. The lady at the table next to us actually screamed at one point because it was so loud. Do you see that cute tin wall behind me? Yep, turns out it’s obnoxiously loud when an acorn hits it. Who knew.
Unfortunately, the wind that evening was a precursor to the wildfires surrounding Napa and Santa Rosa, and we woke up to widespread devastation the next morning. We were thankful to make it home safely, but our thoughts and prayers continue to be with everyone affected by the fires.
